“The humanization of the machine and the mechanization of
the man, in the light of Orthodox Anthropology”

Abstract
In the present work, we attempt to investigate the issue of the astonishing development of
Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, in relation to the anthropological teaching of the
Church. For this reason, we examine the way in which man is treated by a group of modern
philosophers and scientists, who consider that human nature is exclusively a material reality,
whereas its mental or spiritual state is nothing but cerebral. activities, which at some point
could at some point digital systems and create the "man" of the future. This artificial man
will have hyperintelligence far superior to that of the natural man and qualities far beyond
the human ones, they will be able to develop new senses and even modify their own nature.
Their goal will be to eradicate pain, disease, old age and even death, since they can exist
digitally forever. These anthropological theories are the content of the so-called
Posthumanism, a philosophical movement, which deals with the future of man and the TN.
as well as the relationship between humans and intelligent machines. Posthumanism
believes that robots can gain consciousness and be considered as another kind of intelligent
being with rights and obligations. On the other hand, there is the anthropological teaching
of the Church about human nature, their qualities and possibilities. The main feature of
Christian anthropology is that it sees man as a special creation of God, created in His image
and likeness. Orthodox anthropology is examined in a critical dialogue with modern
scientific theories about man, in the context of psychology, neurophysiology, biology and
physics, in order to determine whether Orthodox Dogma is contrary to sound scientific
knowledge or whether it is another way of reading reality, going beyond the materialism of
scientific thought, without, however, contradicting it.
